OBITUARY.
The death occurred at Hamilton last evening of tin* Mr Samuel llow an. for many years resident in this district, at the age of SI. The late Mr Hawaii was horn in London, Fngland, and came to New Zealand sixty-two years ago, settling in Foxton, where he subsequently lived for forty years. Deceased could recall many interesting events in which lie assisted during Ihe troublous limes with the Natives in those early days when every man took up nruis if necessary to .irotcct his home and family. Deceased married in .1804 and ,-caicd a family of thirteen children, of whom three sons and four daughters are now living—Mrs John \\' ; ilsli and Mrs Irvine, both of Haiglion; Mrs Peter Arcus, Levin; Mrs Frank Birch, Long-burn; Messrs Samuel and Win. Ho wan. Wellington; uni Mr Ernest Howan, who recently lived in Foxton. Mrs Howan predeceased her husband some six ye;irs ago. Deceased also leaves 29 <caiidcliildron and four great-grand children. The late Mr Howan was a ipau ~f sterling character and high integrity and his generous nature endeared him to a large circle of friends and relatives. The funerql will leave the Methodist Church, Foxton, at 1 p.m. sharp, on Friday, for the Foxton cemetery.
