BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

A committee meeting- of the ahove was held last night, Mr Perrcau in the chair. The question of widening the footpath from the Gonrlhouse to the hall was discussed. Some time since, the Justice Department gave authority for the temporary use of the old fire bell site and the Chamber of Commerce suggested that application should be made to the Department asking permission for the widening of the footpath across part of‘ the section. A committee was set; up to go into details with the Town Clerk in orto submit a concrete proposal lo the Department. Mr Christie urged the necessity for tar-sealing the roadway near Ihnkara Garden and laying down a footpath and suggested that this matter be brought before the Borough Council.

Rev. Walton called attention to the destruction of the tree guards and it was pointed out that a reward of £5 was offered by the Society for information leading to the conviction of persons so offending.

The Council forwarded a state on lit to the effect that £lo had heet donated, together with £4 odd, re suit of a picture benefit to the So eietv’s funds.

It was decided to thank those who had donated trees for Arbor Day planting.
