TRAGIC BURNING FATALITY.
AT AMATEUR ENTERTAINMENT. YoUXG GIRL SUCCUMBS. Wanganui, Last .Night. Lily Darby, who was desperately burned during the performance of “The Gay Parisienne,” by the local amateurs on Tuesday evening, passed away to-night. The tragedy lias caused a gloom and further performances of the play have been postponed. It appears that deceased and another member of the chorus were in the dressing room, when deceased’s lnit became ignited by contact with a gas jet. She threw the hat on the lloor and attempted to stamp out the ilames, when her dress of cotton wool caught lire. In a moment she was a mass of flames. She was finally rolled in a coat and the Ilames beaten out, but not before terrible injuries were inflicted. The sufferer was taken to the hospital und lingered for twenty-four hours.
