The quarterly meeting of the Koxtou Chumhev o£ Commerce was held iii the Town Hall Supperroom on Thursday night. The meeting was presided over by the president (Mr 1). Christie) and there was a fair attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. K, Hornblow. i
A motion of sympathy was Massed to Mr 11. L. Young, president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, in his recent bereavement.
Correspondence re Levin-Great-tord deviation were read from the Levin Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce and Mr Field, M.P. After some discussion it was decided to convene a meeting of the Levin-Great ford Railway League, to he held at Foxton, in September and that Messrs D. Christie and .J. I\. Hornblow, together with Mr A. X. Smith, be representatives from the Foxton Chamber on that bodv.
Mr Hornblow was appointed delegate to attend a meeting of local body representatives to he held in Shannon in connection with the arrangements to celebrate the switching on of the power. A letter was read from Wellington shipping agents re extra insurance mi vessels trading to the port of Foxton. —Referred to the Harbour Board. It was decided that Air A. J. Smith represent the Chamber on a deputation to the Government re tourist resorts and publicity of New Zealand, on September 11th. Considerable discussion arose in connection with a proposed recommendation to the Borough Council to abolish the charge for extraordinary supply of water. —Decided to hold the matter over until after the electric current was available. , WATER AND DRAINAGE. Mr Smith drew the Chamber’s attention to the fact that the water and drainage scheme was still incomplete and lie was of the opinion that this work should be finished at the earliest opportunity. On the morion of Messrs AleAlurray and .Jno. Ross, it was decided that a letter be sent to the Council, congratulating them on their splendid efforts in the past and urging them to make further effort to complete this work at the earliest possible moment; also that the Alinisrer of Finance be. written to. pointing out the urgency of this work; also that the money was promised the Borough Council by the Advances Department when the wafer and drainage scheme was first mooted. TRIANGLE FENCE. It was resolved to write to the Council and request that the whole of the post and chain fence around the Triangle be removed and that a suitable curb be erected jn its place.
