OUR NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL
GENERAL SIR CHARLES FERGUSSON. Wellington, Last Night. Sir Charles Fergusson has been appointed Governor-General of New Zealand. Air Massey, in announcing this in the House, late to-night, said Sir Charles Fergusson had a wonderful military record and he could not help thinking the King had made a particularly good selection. Sir Charles Fergusson is a son of Sir James Fergusson, a former Governor of New Zealand, and it was a various coincidence that the wife of (lie now Governor was a daughter of Lord Glasgow, another former Governor of New Zealand.
General Sir Charles Fergusson, seventh Bail., of Kilkerran (created 1703) K.C.M.G., C. 8., D.L., J.P M.Y.0., f’oughl at Omdurman, was Adjutant General Egyptian Army, UIOI-3. and in the Great War commanded the sth Division and later the 2nd and 171 h Army Corps. He was lirsl military Governor of Cologne during its occupation by the New Zealanders and was succeeded in this post by Sir. Alex. Godley.
