ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER.
A CANTERBURY CASE. Christchurch. August In. John Edward Jeffreys, a carrying contractor, was arrested last evening on a charge of having attempted to murder his frife. Florence Jeffreys, at Glentni on July 27th. On Sunday, in July, Jeffreys went i nl on a pig-shooting expedition, accompanied hv his wife and two children mid two ATaoris. B is alleged that when they arrived at Glentni !..■ -o ut the Maoris and the eldest child away, and that while the wife vas lending down attending to the . nun-er child. .Jeffreys shoved the •..oman over the cliff. When the Maori- returned Jeffreys said his \ jfe had fallen down the cliff. She v•;( - found in a badly brumed court'.i.i a hundred feel below.
Jeffreys appeared at the ALvgis--11 ale's Court at Rnngiorn this morning, nail was remanded till August 22nd. hail being refused. It is alleged the woman received injuries through being pushed over a cliff.
