SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
PADDON WINS AND ESTABLISHES WORLD'S RECORD.
Brisbane, August 12. Paddon won by eight lengths. A new world’s record was made, the three miles being covered in seventeen minutes and titty-live seconds by Paddon before a huge crowd on liic river to-day. The weather was ideal. Paddon scaled at fourteen stone, and Eel ion at thirteen ten. There was practically no wind, the mu ili-easterly having dropped, and the race was rowed on the incoming tide. It was an excellent start, the Erst minute’s rating's being Paddon 28, Pelt on 32. Felton had an advan - tage at one hundred yards, but Paddo caught and passed him at the half mile. Here Paddon was rowing with tine length, but Eelton feathered cleaner.
At the mile Eelton appeared to close up, but Paddon had increased his load by three lengths at the mile and a-half. He was now rating 28. Pelt on was still sculling well, but was not getting Paddon’s clearance. Over the last mile the water was very smooth. Paddon crossed into Poitou’s water, rating twenty-two, and there had the advantage of another two lengths. He had rowed two miles in eleven minutes liftysevcu seconds. Pel ton attempted unsuccessfully to reduce his lead and Paddon linishcd the fresher and received an ovation, winning by eight lengths.
