LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

INVITATION TO START CODE IN MAX AW A’IT.

AIR JACK’S LETTER TCf DR

THACKER. Speaking at the civic reception to the English League team at Christchurch last night, Dr. Thacker, who was one of the speakers, said he had a letter from the ARmawatn, which stated that the whole of the Rugby teams in the Alanawatu were going to go over to League next season. ll<- and others had been invited to visit Manawatu and start the code there. The writer of the letter to him was AD P. J. Jack, of Foxton.

Our representative showed the above message to Air Jack this morning and was handed the corlespondcAicc which had passed between Mr Jack and Dr. Thacker. On July (itlt Mr Jack wrote as follows to Dr. Thacker: — “Dear Sir, —Would you get me all information and rules re forming a League Centre here. The whole four teams of Rugby here will lomi: over to as, one from Bulls, three from Shannon, two from Palmerston X. and one from Te Kauwnu, and T have not tried Levin and four other places. Everyone here is fed up wit It the Cnion and when T saw how the feeling was I pushed League and now everything is ready for a meeting as regard formation rules, etc. I have approached about twenty of the most influential business men and everyone of them will come on the committee if wanted. We can get fi.nr grounds here, one in the centre on the Alain St., so yon se.ee tin- difficulty re ground uiilikt* oilier <*c*ni res, is ovcbvoibp. As soon as we get information and forms I intend calling a meeting and would deem it a great favour if you could come up and address the meeting. I know the interest y»u take in the game, I myself having played for I,inwood when I lived in Chris!church. I don’t think any game has such a chance open to it as we have at present and I want to o-of a meeting going while the feeling is high against the Union. We are happily situated, half-way between Wellngtou and Wanganui and 1 feel sure it will give the Wellington Centre a great lift to have another Centre so close (86 miles) to play games with. We join in wishing the League code every success in winning the two tests and hope next time we will have the visitors playirtg against the Alanawatu Rugby League."

In reply Dr. Thacker stated, inter alia, that he would put the League organiser in touch with Mr Jack

and suggested that a game might hi a imaged against a Wellington oi local team at Poston this season.
