MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of the above was held last, night. CORRESPONDENCE

was read and dealt with as follows: From the Horowhenua Electric Power Board, enclosing a copy of the specifications covering the installation of 25 h.p. motor for Foxton Borough Council pumping plant. —Decided that.the specifications be approved and that the. Power Board engineer be asked to submit tenders received to the Water and Drainage Committee, who are hereby given power to act. From the Municipal Association of X.Z.. notifying the Council that the next conference will bei held in October of this year and pointing out. that remits, must lie sent in before August 31st. —Decided on the motion of the Mayor, that the following remit be sent: “That contributions to fire boards throughout the Dominion be as follows: Insurance Cos. CO per cent., Local Bodies 30 per cent and Government 10 per cent.; instead of Insurance Cos. 45 per cent., Local Bodies 45 per cent., 'Government 10 per cent., ns at present.” Also, moved by Or. Adams: “That Mayors be elected by the Council instead of by the electors.” From Mr J. Parker (who was in attendance) making application for cei’tam money, allegedly due to him for work done by him at the pound when he was poundkeeper. —The claim referred to work done some .years ago and it was decided to refer the matter to the Works Committee.

From the Foxton Racing Club, making application to remove sand from the old rubbish depot.—Permission granted, provided all holes are properly filled in. WATER AND DRAINAGE FOREMAN’S REPORT. The foreman reported as follows: “During the month I have been engaged in (he following works: Meter reading and repairing, repairing roof of householder. connecting houses with high pressure water supply, 12 hours at gas works mak-. ing two new gates for pound; dressing spare water mains; renovating hand room: repairing artesian pipe line. Pumping Maintenance was as follows: Coal, 2tons, lcwt., £5 17s lOd, oil, l i gals., 6/9; wages £8 3/7, a total of £l4 8/2. Seventy-seven hours were spent pumping water, and 900,000 gallons pumped at a cost of 5d per 1,000 gallons. Waterworks maintenance: £8 9/3; do., drainage, £3 10/11; do., by-’aws, £5 0/3. Twenty hours were spent on outside work, producing £2 3/4. Adopted.

The poundkeeper repotted that during the mow. i four horses and six cows were impounded and driving fees fo the amount of 7/- collected. Sixteen cows wore released to their owners after driving fee.? Jo the amount o® 3/ v tre paid.— Arif pled.

ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT

During the month the road staff has been engaged on the following works: —Weeding water tables in Johnston, Cook, Whyte, and Park Sts., patching holes in footpath in Clyde and Wharf Sts. caused by the operations of t.O Post and fi.degraph gang; forming and laying down footpath and rolling clinker etc., Russell St., erecting notice board to ladies rest room: asphalting fire plugs, carting sand to pound yard and general maintenance. A culvert lias been laid across Thynne St. to carry off surface water. The staff is at present engaged in clearing water tables in Hillary St. and Flitter St. and the eastern end of Cook St. A suggestion was made that the staff repair a fence on the eastern side of Victoria Park, also that the culvert at the junction of Spring St. ■with Avenue Road be extended to the full width of the road. Sufficient pipes are on hand to do this work.—Decided to adopt the report with the exception of suggested works, which will .be viewed by the Works Committee. Cr. Adams drew attention to the-bad state of the northern end of Russell St.
