WOMAN “BOOKIE” FINED.
London, June 20
Police raids on premises used forbetting resulted in fines at. North London and Wood Green. The defendants in the tirst case were Mr.' Annie Du lieu and her son, Thomas, of Front Road, Upper Clapton. The latter’s plea of “not guilty” was accepted, his mother taking all the responsibility, said Air Saunders, prosecuting. It was stated that the police watched the house for a week, during which lime 51 men, 111 women, 25 hoys and 38 girls visited it. Among the large quantity of betting slips found by the police were a number relating to betting on cricket.
While flu* police were in the house (wo little girls, aged thirteen and nine called and handed in slips and money. In. defence of Airs Delicti, it was stated that she had six children and she started the business to augment (lie housekeeping money. Her husband, a working man, did not approve of it. Inspector Fisher said the business had been going on for a long time, but had been done too cutely for action to be taken.
