AN UNUSUAL VISITOR
While-gathering wood on the south spit at the local beach on Tuesday morning, three local residents, Messrs J. Joseph, J. Hannah and Newson noticed something floundering in the surf. On. investigation they discovered a fairly large turtle wallowing in the shallow water. They immediately turned the strange visitor on its hack and canned it. up (he beach, later bringing it to Buxton. The turtle, however, succumbed a few hours after being captured. Tt is 2ft. 9ins. in length and 1 Oiiis. across the hack and weighs about 551bs.'
fa conversation with Mr Hannah, ‘‘nr representative was informed that the lurile is an unusual visitor to these parts, generally living in ropical waters. Ho considered the visitor must have encountered very heavy weather and strong currents to bring it so for south. He said it was a good specimen and about half grown. The turtle will he on exhibition in a shop in Alain Street to-morrow.
