SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the local' State school committee was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs Horn blow (chairman), Cowley, Jno. j Ross, Stevenson, Perreau, Parkin i and Roorc, and the headmaster, Mr Davidson. An apology was received for absence from Mr Geo. Coley, and a vote of sympathy passed with him in his illness. Correspondence was received from the Board re the appointment of Mr F. Mason as headmaster. — Appointment endorsed. Mr Mason is to take up his duties on September 9th. From Board requesting further details re district high school in order to enable the senior inspector to report on same.—The actingheadmaster to forward details. From Board re appointment of Air Christoffersen in charge of the Beach side-school and stating that he would take up his duties on September 9 th.—Appointment confirmed. From Board re appointment of Mr Dooley as relieving teacher. — Received. The headmaster reported that the average attendance during the past quarter was 407.65, being a percentage of 91.56* on the roll. Several maintenance repairs were set out. — Resolved to leave same in the hands of the headmaster. It was resolved that the headmaster's protest against children leaving school before school hours to attend entertainment practices be ~ upheld with instructions to take the |j tueessiiry steps against * in future.
It was reported that the sum of £9 (>/- had been donated to the funds as the result of portion of proceeds of a recent entertainment. The el)airman was authorised to employ labour to repair the fence at the teacher’s residence.
