A TITANIC CONTEST. New York July 24. Truiney won ou a technical knockout over Carpentier when Carpen - tier failed to respond to the hell for Cm fifteenth round. The blow at the end of the four--1 renfli round, which Oarpentier’s handlers said was low, sent him to the mat, writhing with pain, but the referee ordered Carpentier to continue. When the hell sounded for the' 15th the Frenchman came out hut sank to the floor doubled up with apparent pain. The referee waved Tnnney to his corner with the idea of stopping the match, and Carpen - lior rolled to the floor. The t ringside was a bedlam of confusion. M. Descamps rushed (o the referee yelling '‘foul’’ while the announcer lifted Tummy’s arm in token of victory. Many spectators thought the final blow a foul and booed the decision and cheered Carpentier'" to the echo as he was assisted through the ropes.
