The infant child of Mrs Markwood residing at Oratia, it is reported, fell into the fireplace, where soup was cooking. It was severely burned and djed from injuries.

CAR AND CART COLLIDE

Wanganui, Lust Night

A ear was wrecked in Carlton Avenue this evening through a headon collision with a Chinaman's cart. The five occupants of the ear were thrown violently on the roadway and were admitted.to the Wanganui hospital. Alexander Sykes, a tally clerk is suffering from a fractured skull, and Peter Hartshorn, a member of the Wanganui “Chronicle” reporting staff is suffering from severe bruis es and shock. The others • escaped with minor injuries. SCALDED IN BREWERY VAT. Gore, July 25. George Whittingbam, junior, single, 20, fell into a vat of scalding water at his father’s brewery at Gore on Tuesday morning. The un fortunate Thau was immersed to the hips but was speedily rescued by bis father. His injuries were not at first regarded as serious, but he succumbed as a result of severe burns to-day.
