SOCIAL.
A very pleasant social function was held in the Methodist Sunday schoolroom last night as a ‘‘windup'’ to die recent combined elmirs competition hold locally and in Levin. Members of the choir and friends were present and games and vocal items were indulged in. Mr IT. Osborne (conductor of the Fox ton Combined Choir) thankcut all those who had helped in any way with tin- competition and especially Mr Thornber (organist). Tie dwelt for a short while on the benefits to he derived from choral singing and expressed the. hope that a choral society would he established locally. He also touched on the recent competition. At a suitable .juncture in the evening, Rev. Pcryman presented Mr Tf. Osborne with an ebony silver mounted baton, suitably inscribed, m: behalf of members of the combined choir. In doing so, lie said that he was sure that if the decision at the recent competition had been I:v public vote. Foxlon would have won easily. (Applause). Mi- Osborne suitably replied and thanked members for their present. “For He's a -lolly flood Fellow” was then sung, after which a tasty supper was handl'd round by the ladies, tlie evening concluding with the singing of “Anld Lang S.vne.”
Mr Osborne announced that the rci-eii! competition laid proved a liimnciiii success, resulting in the sum of £2 in/- being placed to the credit of the combined choirs. During the evening vocal items were contributed by Mrs Downes and Misses Phillips and Huffman.
