CONFLAGRATION.
SIX- ROOMED DWET.LTXf! VXD CONTEXTS DESTROYED.
Residents were aroused at about o’clock oil Sunday morning by the clanging of the lire bell when if was noticed that a six-roomed house in Die Avenue Road occupied jointly by Mrs Beaslow and Mr Barrail and family, was ablaze. The building, which was an old one, was well alight when the brigade arrived and was being fanned by a >oulh- westerly breeze. Some delay was occasioned by the brigade in locating Die lire plug which was covered by earth. Three leads ol hose were directed on to the building under a splendid pressure, but Ilit' building was completely gulled. Mr Admore's residence, nearby, had a narrow escape and but for Du* lire fighting appliances, would probably have been demolished. The outbreak occurred in one of Du* front rooms but Die origin is a mystery.
The house was owned by Airs Spelmaii of Palmerston X. and was insured in Die State Olliee for £250. Air BarratDs effects were insured in the Atlas office for £250 and Airs Beaston’s effects for £IOO.
