A working hoe of members of the Foxton Bowlin*' Club will be held on the green to-morrow afternoon. A meeting of the Committee will be held this evening.
At the Palmerston X. Court yesterday, Joseph Sutherland Alunro was committed for trial for an alleged breach of the Bankruptcy Act in that within three years before the commencement of hs bankruptcy he failed to keep such books of account as are usual and proper in the business carried on by bankrupt.
At the local police court yesterday, before Mr Hornblow, J.P., Peter Petersen, charged with drunkenness was convicted and prohibited for a period of twelve months. The Palmerston X. Hospital Board at yesterday's meeting appointed the Chairman (Sir James Wilson) and Air .J. K. Hornblow as its representatives at a conference of Hospital Boards convened by the Minister of Public Health. «

Twenty-seven men who were arrested in a gaming house raid recently appeared at the i’olice Court, Auckland. All were convicted on the charge of being found in a common gaming hon-c. Two were collected and discharged; one was lined £2, and the remainder £5 each. The keeper, John Bartlett Bakahech, admitted running the house as a gaming hou.-c for the last, six weeks, and was lined £IOO.
It is understood tiiat substantial reductions in land valuations have been made by the Government on re - turned soldiers' properties in the Westmere district, (says the Wanganui Chronicle). Jl is probable that similar reductions have been made in the Wangaehu district. The information stated Unit it would have been impossible for many of the soldiers to have carried on much longer under the present valuation. The result of the revaluation would mean that land purchased at £OS per acre would be reduced to £25. ALr and Mrs Gregory, of Afouloa, gave an evening to Miss Berta •Spring.and Mr Jack Kowtb on Wednesday lasl in honour of their approaching marriage. A very pleasant evening was spent in dancing, competitions, games and singing. Some sixty people were present from Moutoa, Shannon and Buxton, and the guests of the evening were the recipients of many useful presents. Mr Hook made the presentations on behalf of those present and Air iS’ewth replied on behalf of his fiance and himself. That the dairying industry is nourishing in the King Country is shown by the fact that a new factory is now in course of erection on the Kawhia Harbour. The factory, which is being erected in concrete, will be one of the most up-to-date of the smaller factories in the Auckland province. It is being erected on the water’s edge at Lemon Boint, Kawhia Harbour, and at high tide boats will be able to come alongside. The butter will be shipped direct from the factory to Unehunga. it is hoped to have the factory erected and to commence active operations in the coming season. It is stated that the new company has a guarantee of over IUOU cows.
A Morrinsvillr farmer lias found a use for rats. One day recently ho found his dog smiling excitedly around the pile of posts. Removing; some of I lie posts, lie found a nil, which the dog quickly accounted for. The dog, however, did not appear to be satisfied, and continued its quest for something invisible. Removing more of the posts, the farmer found several newly-born rabbits, which it is presumed were killed and taken there by ibe rat.
