(Note; The construction of this deviation would, among other advantages, save a number of steep grades between Palmerston N. and Marlon, reduce the distance between Woffington' and Auckland by about 17 miles, open up to railway communication a targe area of ague ulturai and pastoral land not at present served by a railway, and go a long way towards obtaining the much-desired object of establishing a daylight service during the summer mouths between Wellington and Auckland),
