Foxton was penalised on numerous occasions and in the scrum the white pack gained tlie ball more often than the yellows. A penalty kick was given Weraroa and Udy sent the ball between the posts. Whites again pressed hard and secured another penalty kick near the yellow 25, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Shortly after this I lie whistle sounded half-time. From the commencement .of the second spell hot play centred about the yellow 25, until Barber transferred play by a kick up field. The ball travelled rapidly up and down the field for a while. Foxton and then Wcraroii, in turn, becoming aggressive. From tight play in mid field Weraroa backs got possession and Udy, after making a fine run, scored between the po-ts. The kick failed. The local Juniors defeated K>>putaroa on their own ground by 19 points to 8. Avvahou defeated AFranni at Foxton by 3 point,s to nil. The Weraroa team defeated ihe local Fourths at Levin, by 3 points to nil.
SHANNON 14 V. MOUTOA Nil.. For the .Junior Championship game at Shannon the weather was ideal but the ground was heavy. Muutoii met Shannon, both teams being minim a couple of their main players, bill nevertheless the game was keenly contested and in soiir* stages exciting. Shannon kicked off punctually to time with the wind belli ml them. Mont on started a for-/ ward rush hut Hunt picked up well and found the line. From a lineout Shannon became aggressive but. a bad pass by George spoilt a chance. Shannon kept up the attack and P. Morgan worked his way over. Gill’s kick a’t.fhe goal failed. From the kiek-ot};; the play was mostly-confined to the forwards on both sides'foi s some time. Hunt took a mark in front of the goal and had a drop kick but without success. Monton then took a hand, Morgan. Newth and MeSweeney being prom incut mi several occasions. Newth was nearly over a couple of times, but the Shannon defence was sound. In the second spell il was though! Moutoa would have a chance. They made determined efforts to reduce the deficiency hut they were mot with solid defence. Shannon, juniors
are alwavs a good second spell side fail on the day their game was not of their best. The backs mulled several passes, which might have meant much. Holden -cored under the posts. Gill’s kick being successful. Later Tovey got away with the ball and, beating several opponents, passed to Robinson, who scored. The kick at goal by McEwan failed. Just on the call of time Hunt registered a line try which -McEwan failed to convert. The game, thus endled: Shannon i-1; Moutoa nil. Mr A. McDonald was referee. P. Morgan retired during the game through a ricked knee. ,
Practices for the Fourths will be held at Stevenson’s on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday' evenings of this week. All players must attend.
