CHINESE SOCCER TEAM.
DRAWN GAME WITH WAIR ARAPA. The Chinese University Students’ Soccer team opened its New Zealand lour at Masterton on Thursday when it drew with the Wairarapa representatives, one goal cach.NThc attendance numbered 3,000. The home team was the heavier, but the visitors suffered little from this disparity, their speed and elusiveness being their best defence. Their defence was good, the star performers in this department being Ting the right fullback; Laing, the left half and Wang, centre half. Their attack relied solely on team work, individuality being unknown to them.
The first spell was evenly contesIwi, neither side scoring. In the second spell, the visitors became more accustomed to the underfoot conditions. Chang, at centre forward played a splendid game and opened the account half way through the second spell with a shot that the home goal keeper never sighted. Enthused with this success, the Chinese peppered the home area, with successive attacks, but the Wairarapa men were better used to the conditions aud defended well. Shortly after Wairarapa was awarded a free kick from which Stacey kicked a goal the ball hitting the upright and skidding in behind the falling keeper. The Chinese team gave the impression that with combination it will pfay sparkling football. The team was very popular with flic public.
