LEVIN-GREATFORD RAILWAY DEVIATION.
NO ACTION TO BE TAKEN BY COUNCIL UNTIL SCORE OE COMMISSION KNOWN. At last night’s meeting of Hie Bor.mgh Council a letter was received from the local Chamber of Commerce asking the Council to support a scheme for a publicity campaign in connection with the Levin-Grcatford railway deviation. Cr. Bryant said the best tiling to do was t<> get in touch with all the local bodies.
The Mayor congratulated the Chamber for its enterprise but lie considered lhat no action should betaken until it. was found out whether tiiis matter would be within the scope of tlie Railway Commission which is shortly to go into railway mailers. Mr field had asked this question in the House and a reply would lie forthcoming on Wednesday (Question Day). Should the Le\in-Greall'ord deviation come within its scope the Council should then get busy and collect evidence to submit to it.
it was decided that the Chamber of Commerce be congratulated on keeping the Levin-Greatford Deviation before the public, but that in tin- opinion of the Council the cost of the proposed advertisement (£3i) would lie bettor expended in preparing evidence to place before the Railway Commission.
