BOROUGH FINANCE.
- - The practice of granting discount for prompt payment of rates has again justified itself according to a statement prepared by the Town Clerk (Mr Win. Trueman) who states that up to and including the 19th June, the last day for payment, the sum of £2,359 15/5 has been received in cash, and discount amounting to £OO 0/8 lias been allowed. These sums represent a payment of rates amounting to £2,420 3/1, and as the total rates levied for the current year amount to £4,948 13/0 it will be seen that within one month of the issue of the rate notices a sum approximating 49 per cent, of the rates levied has been paid, and that before the expiry of the first quarter of the financial year. This, we think, will take some beating and the ratepayers of the borough are to.be congratulated on their enterprise in the ready response to an undoubtedly attractive propositioo.
