DAWBERS V. FOXTON.
A spectacular game took place on the race-course when Dawbers (red) met Foxton (blue) last Saturday. Conditions for play were ideal. Foxton won the toss and upon kicking off Dawbers forced their way into the strangers territory, and forced an unsuccessful corner. They broke through again, and Travers scored his first goal. Hearsay followed his skippers’ example and sent up a hot shot, which Leaver saved. Once again they tried, but a shot from Travers .Junr. went past. Foxton transferred, and showed the ability of their five forwards, but were ruled • offside. Dawbers carried play to the other end, only to force a fruitless corner. Foxton returned fire, but were once again ruled'offside. Dawbers fancied the other posts, and consequently Hearsey put one of his typical shots past. Play transferred and"‘fhe blue jerseys became conspicuous' in the visitors territory. A corner resulted with no advantage. Childs was invited to save, end he did. Dawbers gained possession and showed their attacking prowess until Travers put in a fine shot.
Dawhejw 2. —Foxton 0. Blues pressed, but their play was spoiled by offside work. From the kick Dawbers took play down the field, and were-granted a corner, which Foxton cleared with a fast run up, which Dawbers counteracted, Travers breaking through, but the Foxton custodian saved. The home team transferred, Crowe calling for Childs to save. The leather came back again, and A. Crowe banged it in. Dawbers 2. Foxton 1. Stung by this reverse. Dawbers attempted to increase their lead, but Travers missed an open goal. Foxton didn’t intend to give him another chance so. after transferring, if came as no surprise when A. Crowe scored bis second goal, levelling the scores. Foxton pressed to gain an advantage without result till half time. From the kick off Dawbers showed their dash, and Travers scored bis third goal. They returned once nfore Hearsey shot. Leaver had no chance to grasp the hall, and Travers junr. scored, putting his side two ahead. They tried to add more glory to their laurels, hut gained no further advantage. Foxton gave their version but bad bard luck in a melee round the goal, and hut for an accident to the centre-for-ward would have scored. From the bounce they gained possession, and W. Mounsey scored a good goal which gave Childs no hope, although if was a long-distance shot. Dawbers 4. Foxton 3. They attempted another, but without result. Dawbers pressed bard and Walker scored a surprise goal. Foxton tried to add another score, till Mr. Forbes blew the whistle, for time with the scores Dawbers o- —Foxton 3. Foxton put up a very game fight against the crack Palmerston team, and although beaten were bv no means disgraced.
