WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT. During the month of May the following work has been carried out by the foreman: —Cleaning two sewers that were blocked, clearing one house drainage blockage, connecting one house with the high pressure water supply and extending another service; starting plumber’s stock to pumping station, fixing a cracked water main, clearing a section of lupins, and eight hours were spent with the gas manager at gas fitting. A house to house inspection if the borough was made and all enquiries and complaints attended to. A recommendation was made that a six-inch steel water main he procured in case of a
burst in Main St. Tin- pumping report was as follows:—Maintenance cost: Coal (1 ton 15 cwts.) £5 0/7, oil (2 gills.) 9/-, wages £7 4/G, a lot ill of £L2 14. T. Hours spent at pumping,- 08 with the result that 595,000 gallons were pumped at a cost- of 5d per 1,000 gallons. Maintenance. waterworks, £6 5/ti: do., diainage £2 11/1. Attendance to by-laws in general, £2 11/2: numbers of hours on outside work, 105, producing £1 -11/0. —Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT." During tin- memth of May the road staff was engaged in the following work: —Handling Belmont metal, most of which has now come to hand, and metalling Russell Street troin 1 1 lo Park cutting almost to the wiii. r trough and blinding with clav. A few trucks of P.ehnont (15 inch) is yet required to finish this road t-i the junction with Avenue Road and to crown up the places where heavy traffic has created ruts. If this work is done a good stretch/of road will result for some time to ci.me, which could he tar-sealed V. hen time is opportune. A light dressing of half-inch metal has been oicen to that portion of Jolin--ioii St. between Union and Russell. Streets. This part of the road is verv rough. Clay is on hand for this portion, which should settle down after being lightly sprinkled with the day. The remainder of half-inch Belmont and the quarterinch has been discharged to the vard. The balance of the eoiuitv metal (40 yards) ordered last year, has also been carted. This has been used for patching, principally on boundary roads. Owing to the arrival of metal during the month, the work of cleaning up Main and Clyde Sts. lias not been carried out quite as regularly as usual. —Adopted. ■* GENERAL. Plans and specification for the erection of a residence on the south side of Ravensworth Place by it* J. MeC’oll were approved of. Decided to donate £2 2/- to the Plunket Society and £1 1/- to the local State School Committee. A motion of appreciation of the good work done by the former was carried unanimusly.
An application of transfer of the lease of the target reserve from Mrs Tvinley to Messrs Evans Bros, was received. —-Decided to that the Town Clerk go into the matter with power to act.
Decided to make enquiries from the Horowhenua Electric Power Board as to the cost of installing electric motors for pumping water at the pumping station, also for operating and driving power at the Town Ilall.
Decided that the Public Works Committee the matter of scooping down the hill on the south side of the Cemetery Road cutting; also that the Manawatn County Council he approached with a view to having a dangerous heml straightened in Union Street. Decided to order 160 tons of Belmont metal. A letter was received from the Prime Minister re finance, stating that nothing could be done in the way of raising a loan at present.— Received.
