annual Meeting

The annual meelng of the above was held in the Courthouse yesterday before Mr J. L. Stout (chairman), and Messrs -I. IT. Perritt, J. E. Walker, R. Bryant, and AY. Murdoch. Constable Owen, Clerk of the Licensing Bench, conducted proceedings on behalf of the police. NEW LICENSES. The police report being favourable. new licenses were granted to I lie following:— Mary Griffin, Manawatu Hotel, Foxton: 11. D. AleMauaway (Mr R. Mnckay), Rangitikei Hotel, Bulls 0. 0. Price (Air Mackav), Criterion Hotel, Bulls; James Curran (Air Adams), Albion Hotel, Shannon; B. Dooley (Mr Mackav) .Junction Hotel Sanson; \V. Speech lay, Endymion Hofei, Awahuri; 11. F. Preston (Air Borgia), Post Office Hotel, Boston. RENEWALS. J. Behbington, for whom Mr Cohen. of Wanganui, and Mr Adams, of Levin, appeared, applied for a renewal of I lie license for the Grand Hotel, Levin. The police report in this case was adverse. Reference was made to lines inflicted against the proprietor of this hotel last October. Mr Cohen said that the tines had not been very heavy in the ease referred to and he thought that the Magistrate could not have-taken a verv grave view of the cases. The Chairman: I know exactly what views lie took. 1 was the magistrate.

Continuing, Mr Cohen said that the licensee had kept a good hotel for the past three years and 3 months. The police reports had previously been good. The Chairman said that’ there was no question' raised as to the way in which the hotel was conducted.’ The fault lay in the liar supervision, which was far too lax. Air Cohen said that he felt sure that the licensee would benefit- by the comment of the Chairman of the Committee and would keep stricter supervision in future. The application was granted. Police reports being favourable, renewals were granted to the following : E. J. Nash (Mr Adams), Levin Hotel. Levin; AY. Kirkland (Ah' Bergin), Whyte’s Hotel, Foxton; R. Palmer (Air Bergin), Family Hotel, Foxton: T. P. Aloynihan, Manawatu Hotel (Shannon). A renewal of license was granted AV, Bull Ltd., of Levin, as a wholesale wine and spirit merchant for whom Mr Adams appeared. TRANSFERS. Transfers were granted as follows: — A\ r . McLennan (Air Alaekay) to H. ■J. D. MeManaway, Rangitikei Hotel, Bulls. J. T. Brady to C. T. Price Criterion Hotel Bulls (Air Mae Kay).
