KING ADMIRES MAORIS
ROYALTY IN NEW ZEALAND I’AVTLTON. London, May 29. Their Majesties, the King and Queen, accompanied by the Prince of Wales, made a detailed inspection of the Australian and New Zealand pavilions this afternoon. Large crowds followed the Royal Party round, particularly in the Australian pavilion, the Prince of Wales directing the attention of the King and Queen to a working model of a sheep station.
The King was interested in the working of the sheep-shearing macliinerv.
The Royal Party took tea in the New Zealand pavilion. During tin* Koval visit to \\ oilbin' i Ik* party went, to the Maori house outside the New Zealand pavillion. Major Dansey explained the. house carvings and the remarked "I’ve it •’■rent admiration for the Maoris. They tire a most courageous race.” The whole party were photographed outside the house thou -they entered the magnificent rimu-pancl-letl reception room .of the New Zealand pavilion where they signed the visitors’, book.
The Queen was presented with a New Zealand rug. The party toured the pavilion, the Queen momentarily sampling the temperature of the refrigerated chamber where there were fourteen degrees of frost. The Queen next minutely examined the needlework of the New Zealand school children.
Passing to the-Samoan hut the Queen was presented with a Samuan mat. Their Majesties expressed their intention of making a closer inspection of the pavilion later.
