HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
ANNUAL MEETING. MR G. A. MONK RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN. The annual meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board was held at Levin on Tuesday. The chairman (Mr G. A. "Monk) presided, the following being present: Messrs MaIheson, Mackay, Kilsbv. Barber, A. Ross, Brown, and Gunning. Leave of absence was granted to Mr A. Seifert. Accounts totalling £5,197 8/1 were passed for payment. INTEREST ON LOANS. The Public Works Department wrote that the Minister of PublicWorks bad now given bis approval of the payment of.the second year’s interest and sinking fund on the Board’s loan of €BOOOO, which would he falling due on December 21st being made out of loan money.—
Received. The Government Life Insurance Department notified the Board that the first instalment of €IO,OOO of the Board’s loan of £40,000 had been paid into the Bank of,New Zealand, Wellington, for forwarding to Levin.—Received. The number of consumers signed up in the northern portion of the Board’s district are: —Lighting 026, ranges 30, water services 40, industrial motors 25, and in the southern area (Otaki and south thereof) Lighting 134, ranges 5, industrial motors 2. In Shannon and immediate vicinity GO installations have been inspected and passed for payment, whilst in Otaki Messrs Turnbull and Jones have completed 16 installations —same have been inspected iiml passed under the Board’s bylaws. The total installation figures to date are as follow. — Lighting 760 Ranges 35 Hot Water Services. 40 Industrial Motors 27 Milking Motors 40 During the morning of the 9th inst. current was switched on the Mangahao-Shannon line by the Public Works Department from the steam plant. On that date the Bonid’s staff connected 120 houses and the street lighting system, consisting of 40 lights; no trouble whatever was experienced and everything has been - very satisfactory since. The required number of meters have been tested and erected in each consumer's premises, Messrs R. Y. Walls and Co. are making good progress with the Foxton Borough group. Messrs Eeles and Co., Lunn and Henley and Alien and Gilmour have each commenced work on the group contracts awarded them at last board ingMr Monk was re-elected chairman. In resuming the chair, Mr G. A. Monk -aid in looking ahead he couid ,-ee that ihey would have their iittlc troubles but as long as the Board puffed together they could meet them as they arose. He would like lu say a lew words regarding the staff. They bad every reason to congratulate .themselves, on the staff noL only on appointments the Board had made, but on those which i.ad been made right down the ladder. They had an organisation of which ihey had every reason to be proud, file public also had giveu them every assistance and it was a great help to them iff carrying out the work. The press throughout the 'list net had given every assistance; nothing hud over been too much trouble and ii any criticism had been made he fell it was made with the intention <,f benefiting the dstrict.
