FIRE BRIGADE TOURNAMENT’S.
FOXTON DEFEATS PALMERSTON NORTH. IX COLEY SHIELD COMPETITION On Thursday night the Palmerston North Fire Brigade team that put in a challenge for the Coley 'Shield last week with the local team journeyed to Foxton and attempted to wrest the coveted shield from the local champions. The visiting 11 ain was comprised of Firemen Norlland, Butcher and Gaskin, while the local brigade wa srepresented hv Superintendent Hamer. Foreman Carter and Fireman K. ilirini. Play commenced at eight o’clock with a game between Hirin' end Xortland which resulted in a win for Foxton by 100 to ,58. The next match, Ilamer v. Butcher resulted in a win for Hamer by 100 to fid. The scores in the final game, Carter v. Gaskin were practically the same as the other two .Carter outpointing Gaskin by 10.1 to 53. The totals were; Foxton 301, Palmerston North 171.
The biggest break of the evening was recorded by Ilirini who registered 30. Ilirini still retains the silver badge for putting lip the highest break of the evening. Other breaks were: Hamer 21. Carter 19. Xortland 10. Butcher 9, Gaskin 10. Foxton throughout showed superior play. Immediately after the match ihe Feilding Brigade entered a challenge with the local team, which will be played at Foxton on Monday. 2(ith May.
