A team (Consistin«; of Superinten- <•' >'< Connor, Foreman Breare and Foreman Fre tali ling, representing <!io Levin Fire Brigade, played a billiard tournament with the local brigade, represented by Snperintenuent H. Hamer, Foreman T. Carler and Fireman Hirini, for the Col'■y Shield at the local Fire Brigade Station last evening. The play throughout was of a w ry poor standard, no big breaks being made. The Levin team was late in arriving and play did not commence until 8.30 and opened w;th a game between Superintendent IT. Hamer and Foreman Breare. resulting in a win for Hamer by 100 to 1 8. This game was followed by a. match between Foreman Carter and Foreman Frotehling. Carter reaching the century while the Lomu player stood a! 00. The final game. Fireman Hirini v. Superintendent Conner, proved by far the most interesting contest, the scorc : being very even from start to finish. Hirini notching 100 and Supteintendent Conner 87. ' The totals were: Foxton 300, Levin 225. The biggest breaks were: Hamer 15 and 10. Breare 12 and 15; Curler 11 and 12. Fretchling 8 and 10: Hirini 10 and IS. Conner 11 and Id. Fireman Hirini still retains the medal for recording' the biggest break of the evening. At the conclusion of the tournament the visitors were entertained at a smoke concert by the loeal brigade.
