THE FOXTON WHARF
BOROUGH COUNCIL FAVOURS ROLE CONTROL. BY HARBOUR BOARD. Although the Foxton Habour Board is the controlling authority of the local port, the Railway Department employs labour for handling and sorting of goods and collects freights, etc., from consignees. The Haro.hui' Board has objected to dual control and has endeavoured in obtain complete administration, but witboiil success. Since the strike, however, the Department has granted the Board temporary eon? Irol with full reponsibility and from what has already been done it would appear that the Board can handle this matter as efficiently as the Railways, except for accommodation. Tn this connection the Board has been granted the use of the goods shed. The strike has made it possible for the Board to re-open this question with the General Manager and a further attempt will be made to convert the temporary arrangement into a permanent one. At last night’s special meeting of tlie Foxton Borough Council, the following resolution moved by-Cr. Bryant and seconded by Cr. Smith, was carried unanimously.—
“That the Council respectfully recommends the Foxton Harbour Board to take over the control of its wharves and to collect the sorting and handling charges at present collected by the Railway Department.”
