Owing' to the wet weather the game developed into a forward one. but on several occasions the local backs endeavoured to make it an open game.

From the kick-off Tokomarn (red) pressed hard but good work by the Foxton (yellow) forwards soon carried play to midfield where both teams strove for an advantage which Yellow eventually got through an opening made by Burr. Shortly afterwards Townshend secured near the twenty-five and round scored Fox ton’s opening try, which was unconverted. Foxton 3, Tokomaru nil.

From the kick out Tokomarn again pressed hard. A. Walls clearing only to have Red come again with a great rush, specuating bv A. Fuller, nearly letting them through. Yellow then made another determined rush and A. Fuller .secured from (he ruck and crossed in a good position. The kick was again unsuccessful. Foxton 0. Tokomarn nil.

From tin's on Rod tried very hard to score but Yellow’s defence was sound and the spell ended Foxton 6, Tokomarn nil.

The teams changed straight over and Tokomarn, with the wind behind them, broke through on numerous occasions, only to be beaten back always by Yellow’s good defence. With about half an hour to go, Yellow woke np again and for the remainder of the spell pressed Tokomam practically all the time, Rowlands always saving at times when Foxton seemed certain to score. On several occasions the local forwards became very eager and wore noticed to kick too liard. Once it appeared as if Townshend would score again through good following up, only obstruction on the part of one of Tokomaru’s backs preventing the tiy. At the call for lime Foxton was pressing hard, led by Chaffer and Andrews but the whistle sounded before another try eventuated. THIRD GRADE. . The Shannon thirds won by defijnlt from Foxton.
