BOATING ACCIDENT
FA TA LTTY NARROWLY AVERTED.
A boating accident, fortunately without fatal results, occurred at the Beach on Saturday afternoon. Misses Fahev and ,T. AfcMurray, two local school teachers, who were spending a holiday at the seaside, rowed across to the south beach in a small “flattie.” On .makingjhe return trip the river became very choppy and when half the distance was covered the boat began to ship water over the stern. As wood was packed under the seats no attempt at bailing’ could lie made and shortly after another wave swamped the boat, throwing the two occupants info the water. As nciflier could swim more than a few strokes they clung to the bottom of the upturned boat. Eaeli wave, however, caused the boat to roll over, at one period. Miss Fahey being caught under the boat. Fortunately ATessrs Hartley and Senior were on the beach at the time and the former immediately out out. to the rescue. The two girls were brought ashore safely blit suffering from exhaustion having been struggling in the water from a quarter of an hour to twenty minutes.
