ANZAC CELEBRATION

AT LOCAL STATE SCHOOL. Owing to the Easier holdays (lie local State School children did not take part in the recent Anzae memorial services, bill fittingly carried out a ceremony in the State School yesterday al 2.30 o’clock. The children were assembled and seated in the spacious corridors under the supervision of Air Davidson, -w-ling headmaster, and staff. A table placed in front of the speakers, was laden with floral wreaths and devices liiade by little hands to he placed at the base of the Soldii is’ memorial in memory of the fallen heroes. The ceremony opened with the singing of “God defend New Zealand” bv the pupils of standard V. and AH. Air Davidson then briefly addressed the children upon the object of (lie ceremony. Messrs Horn blow and the Rev. Perryman followed with brief and appropriate speeches touching on (he subjects of patriotism, service, and sacrifice. This was followed by Ihe sinning of tin* National Anthem lie the assembled scholars, after which Air Basil Walls sounded the “Last Post," followed by a minute of intense and impressive silence. After the ceremony the pupils marched in procession to the memorial, where the floral tributes were deposited.
