BOARD OF AGRICULTURE.
Lately the Board of Agriculture drew tde attention of the Hon. Minister of Agriculture lo the danger oi the pussibdily of the introduction into New Zealand oi noxious weed seeds aud inleoliuua annuai diseases by means of l'odder, straw, maize and oats, etc., imported from older countries. The Hon. Minister replied that the position is being- closely watched, iieguiutions dave been iiamed entirely prohibiting tde importation of oats, barley, maize, day, straw, aud chad from tde UdiLeu blaics oi America and from Queensland aud Western Austrada and permitting Lde importation oX this produce Xrorn the older Auatradun btates only with tde precedent consent oX the Minister, iu the case oi hay, straw, or chad packing accompanying goods imported into New Zealand from Great Britain, Ireland, the Continent of Lurope, United btates of America, Queensland or Western Aus Balia, it is now required that the importer oi tde goods destroy tde packing by burning within three days of the commencement of unpacking such goods. As regards Great Britain, il is provided that if packages from that country are accompanied by a sworn certideate to the effect that tde packing das been properly disinfected iu a manner approved of by the High Commissioner for few Zealand* London, the packing need not be destroyed.
