LOCAL TRANSPORT OF GOODS
PICKETS IN ATTENDANCE.
Several pickets arrived from Palmerston N. yesterday aud visited the local railway yards to ascertain whether any attempts were being made tn break the strike. The station yard, however, presented a deserted appearance, the two guards storeman and porter were not on duty. The pickets watched the arrival of the Kennedy and the discharging of cargo. As the Harbour Board is taking complete control of the wharf and transport arrangements, there will be no necessity for the railway officials to participate in this connection.
The Harbour Board shed will be cleared of coal and used for storage purposes. It is not anticipated, however, that there will be much necessity for storage as the goods arriving will be immediately transferred to lorries and sent on to their destination.
