FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

ANNUAL REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The annual report, submitted to the householders meeting on Monday reads as follows: “During the year twelve meetings have been held and the attendance of committeemen has been very satisfactory, harmony and co-opera-tion predominating throughout the year. The school environment has been carefully attended to by the committee and many minor improvements have been carried out during I lie year, which has added to the comfort of school life. The steam radiator for heating the class-rooms continues to give satisfaction and is a decided improvement on'the grate system. During thopycar the school has been connected with the borough water supply and drainage sche me and in this connection the outofTiees have been erected on the most approved methods. Under the supervision of Mr Colev, the subdivisional fences for tlie school play ground have all been effected and other fences repaired. The members of the staff have put in a strenuous year and have discharged their duties to the satisfaction of the Department, parents and committee. The committee desires to congratulate the teaching staff upon the success of the school work during the year and for its hearty co-opera-tion with tlie committee. The annual picnic and excursion to Asnlitirst was a decided success and the outing was thoroughly enjoyed by parents and children alike. The thanks of the committee are due to the Retailers’ Association and to the public for their assistance in r.ontributmg-.to the picnic fund. Mr J. Banks, headmaster, has accepted an appointment to the Hastings school. Your committee desires to place on record its appreciation of his services during his mastership and,wishes him success in his new sphere of labour. The incoming committee will he asked to consider the establishment of a district high school. The preliminaries are very simple. All that is required is a minimum of 20 pupils and the consent of parents of such pupils. The standardisation of school books is another subject which will require attention. The Chairman recently interviewed the Minister for Education re. acquiring a vncifllf section adjoining the school to provide a larger playing area and lie expressed his approval. The receipts for the year including a credit balance from last, year of £l6 15/2 totalled C157-12/-. The principal items were capitation £163 shop day and subsidies £3B 11/3, picnic £67 4/5, rent £2O 1.0/-, concert £23 10/-. Expenditure totalled £253 1/3, leaving a credit balance to several special accounts of £94 10/9. The principal items of expenditure were, cleaning £IOO, prizes £lB 7/2, picnic £66 10/4, fencing £29 7/3,-gen-eral maintenance, sanitation, fuel, etc., accounting for the balance.
