METHODIST CHURCH.
APPRECIATIVE REFERENCE. TO MINISTER AND CIRCUIT STEWARD.
The quarterly meeting of the officers of tlifc Methodist Church was held at Shannon last evening, the Rev. J. Boothroyd presiding over a large and representative attendance. The chairman congratulated the circuit steward, Mr Banks, on his recent appointment to the Hastings school and regretted that it would mean the loss of a most capable official. Several additions were made to the roll hut owing to removals, etc., it was decided to report- the same number as last quarter. The bal-ance-sheet showing the reduction of the ordinary debit balance by about £3O in the Inst six months and the debt on the car from £SS to £ls was received with acclamation. Reports front the Sunday schools were relieved showing that they were doing well. In Shannon on Decision Day. 22 of fhe older children having accepted Uhrist as their Saviour and Lord and 20 have recently signed the temperance pledge in connection with the Alliance young people’s effort. In Foxton in addition to those who have joined the Band of Hope, 35 children have also signed the pledge. Tt was decided to begin holding -wrviees at Shannon every Sunday evening from next month instead of fortnightly, a song service to he held once a month.
The resignation of Afr J. Banks, was accepted with regret and the junior circuit steward appointed in his plnee for the year. Several testified to the good work done by Air Banks during his occupancy of the office and wished him even success in his work in Hastings.
On the motion of Messrs Walker ■■nd Ghrystall. it was decided to niaee on record their appreciation '.f the energy, courtesy, and ability •if the Rev. -T. Boothroyd during the seven months he lias been in Foxton as ministerial supply and wishing him every blessing in his new sphere of labour.
Afr Boothroyd suitably replied, expressing the pleasure hi* had had in his work here which had been made so to a large extent by the kindness and co-operation of the officials and members.' At the dose of (lie meeting refreshments were handed'round by the ladies of the Shannon Church, and on the motion of Mr Ghrystall thex' were heartily thanked for their hospitality.
