ALL SAINTS’ CHILDREN'S HOME.

INCREASED AREA GRANTED BY

HARBOUR BOARD,

At the annual meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday, Mr K. R. B. Holben said that All Saints’ Home itl I lie seaside was now a permanent home with some 14 or 15 children resident there. The section connected with the Home was too small for improvements and as there were vacant mid valueless sections at the rear of the Home, he asked if the Board would transfer them to the Home on the same generous terms as the sections at present occupied by the Home. There was no shelter for the kiddies on it hot day at present, and if an increased urea was granted, the management committee of the Home intended planting a shelter belt right around the home. The committee has been grunted the use of the rear portions of the sections to the south of llie home by the owners.

At. present the prevailing winds sweep right into the home and on a windy day things are very unpleasant. There would probably be 24 children resident at the beach home next year and a sanitation scheme would then he necessary. Should (lie request he granted the section would he “ring” fenced and the imtlrun would know exactly where the children were. The approximate area required was an acre. The children could then have it poultry yard to look after. It was an appeal to humanity. The Chairman said the Board had dedicated the section to a children’s home and the least they could do now was to support it. He had much pleasure in proposing that the Board grant All Saints’ Children's Home sections 150, 149, and 148, and part sections 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 on the same terms as the original section was granted. Mr Clapham seconded the motion which was carried unanimously. On behalf of the Trustees of All Saints’ Home, Mr Holben heartily (hanked (lie Board for its generous grant and said it was the finest thing the Board could do. He pointed out that mi revenue was derived from the Home. It was undenominational and any money raised was for Hie benefit of the children.
