GAS WORKS STOKER
MR JAMES CAREY AI’I’OINTED. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to consider applications for the position of gas works stoker, a position made vacant bv (lie refirement of Mr Heaver, owing to ill-health. Those present were: —Mis Worship the Mayor (John Chrvstall Esq.) and Councillors: Hryaiil, A. N. Smith, Thorpe, Ross, Thompson, Adams. Parkin and Walker. An npology was received from Cr. Coley. There were eight applications for the position in all. which were considered in committee, and Mr James Carey, of Palmerston North, was appoint cd. Mr Carey has for twelve years been in flic employ of the Palmerston Municipal Mas works, and wall commence his duties af Foxtou next month.
