ENGINEER’S REPORT,

At the monthly meeling of the Ifnrowhenua Bower Board, the Engineer (Mr T. R. Overton) reported as follows:—

Line erecting: No. 1 pole gang liiive been erecting additional poles in Shannon Borough, also lines off the Shannon-Foxfon main line and main line poles through the township of Manakau; these could not I,sivc previously been erected on account of telegraph lines being in the way. This gang is now erecting in the Levin borough. No. 2 Pole Gang have completed the main line to the Waikanae river. Swampy ground and hard shingle has been experienced this side of Waikanae, which held hack progress very much. The pole lorry carted out. 314 pole- and has run out the heavy wire on ilie Foxtou-Shannon line and mi the Leviii-Otaki line. No. 1 Wiring (inng have erected 160 chains of main line wiring and have also completed 7f> pm - cent, of the Shannon Borough reticulation. Eleven additional service lines have been run i.ntside of the borough and 52 within the borough. No. 2 Wiring Bang have completed the ShannonFox ion main line as far as Air Easton’s and have erected 10 service lino. No. 3 Wiring Gang have comolet d the Levin-Otaki line as far a-(Mum.

I list nl kill ions.—Canvassing within the Levin Borough is progressing very satisfactorily and to date 140 consumers have -igned up. Before completing the canvass on the western side of the railway line it is hoped tu obtain .•mother 40 signatures. Since the Shannon groups dosed another ten consumers have signed up. nmking a total in that borough of 170 installations. The total figures tu date are: Lighting installations 404, hot water services 110, industrial motors 21. milking motors 21, cooking ranges 25. During thi* period 7)4 installations have been inspected and passed for payment.

With regard to supply of power to certain thixmills, I have received enquiries tor contracts for supply over ;i term of years, this being required before expenditure on the installation of motors is justified, i would like authority to negotiate with tile millers concerned before bringing forward a recommendation.
