REPAIRING THE DAMAGE,
Napier, Last Night.
Blight sunsliine to-dav brought a welcome change from the conditions of the past few days. Fair progress is being made in the work of opening up the roads. The Public Works Department has intimated that it will undertake the work of getting the Wairoa road in order for traffic, and an immediate start will be made. The chief engineer of the Public Works Department is to pay a visit to the district, on account of the Minister not being able to come. The resident engineer -says the damage on the railway works has put them back three months. A mile of embankment was washed «,ut and it will require 30,000 yds. of materials to refill it. Preliminary arrangements for recommencing the work have already been made.
