“T rise to a point of order.” “The speaker may not speak when the president is on his feet to put a motion,” interjected a member at the Methodist Conference at Christchurch last week. “1 beg your pardon,” was the reply. “1 do not take orders front any of the'‘conference except the president.. I will obey his behest. Do you order me to sit down?” he queried of the president. “No." replied the Rev. A. Ashcroft, “1 don't order you to sit down, but I wish vou would.” Amid laughter the original speaker sal down.
Recently a visitor to Auckland from England chanced to note that the name (not a very common one) appearing over a city shop, was the same as his own. Acting on the impulse of the moment, the stranger strolled into the shop. Behind the counter stood an elderly man, who asked what he could do for his visitor. “I see,” said the latter, “that your name is . Do you hv any chance, come from Essex ?” “Why. yes." said the other, “I do.” “Know the village of Priltlewell, Southend-on-Sea?’ “1 was bon there,” was the reply. “I hen your Christian name U Clement ?—and T think you arc my brothel'-’ The next moment they were slinking hands. Forty years had lapsed since these two . met. They parted in Melbourne shortly after their arrival in Victoria from England. since which they had lost (ouch with one another.
