PRESBYTERIAN TENNIS CLUB.
OFFICIAL OPENING. Toward* tho end of Inst year Hie officers of the Presbyterian Church realised Hint something should be done for Ihe social welfare of (lie younger members of the church and with tin's view in mind it was determined to lay down tennis courts on the spare land at the rear and side of the church. Mr Davidson energetically took the work in hand and before long had worked wonders on the rough ground. Meetings were, held and it was decided to form a tennis club, members of which must be adherents or members of the Presbyterian Cliureh and a small subscription fee was decided on. Unfortunately Mr Davidson’s assistants were very scarce and it was not until last: tsaturday that the ground was snffi(ientiy prepared, netting, etc., erected and things in general got into ship-shape °rder. The official opening of the chili took place in the afternoon, when the Her. F. McDonald performed the opening ceremony in the presence of a fair niimhci of members. In declaring the courts open for play, Mr McDonald said that, although their completion had been delayed, he hoped they would he well patronised and be a means of bringing the young people l of the church together. He particularly eulogised the work of Mr Davidson (secretary). Mis McDonald served the Hrst hall and games were played during the rest of the afternoon. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies, and a very enjoyable time was spent.. Mr Davidson and his two assistants .deserve particular praise for the manner in which they have stuck at and done the spade work.
