LIBEL ACTION WITHDRAWN.

MAYOR SUES COUNCILLORS

Hamilton, Yesfonlay. At the Supreme Court Percy Watts, a former Mayor, sued Henry Tristram, a former councillor and Charles Barton, a. present Councillor for £2OO each for alleged libel. The case arose out of letters published in the “Waikato Times,” signed by the defendants which plaintiff alleged were false and malicious and which dealt with a municipal matter of three years ago. After certain evidence was taken. His Honour suggested that a conference be held. Subsequently the actions were withdrawn, defendants stating that they did not intend in the letters to attribute any improper conduct or personal miscouducl to plaintiff.
