PLUNKET SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING

There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Foxton branch of the Plnnket Society yesterday afternoon. Apologies for absence were received from the Revs. McDonald and Walton and Tvlesdames Barber senr., McDonald, Owen, Christie, and Chrystall. Mrs Ausfin-Johnston presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet. Mrs F. Robinson said she thought the Society had had a very satisfactory year. She was pleased to observe that contributions to the office box had increased. It was the duty of those receiving the benefits of the nurse’s services to contribute, if only a small sum monthly. She would like to see the general public take more interest, in the Society, which was well worthy of support. The committee had worked well and had to keep on working, and the majority of its members had nothing to gain from the Society. Donations in actual cash amounted to £l4 for the year. The speaker thought Foxton could do better than that. The motion was seconded by Mrs Walton. Mrs Ausfin-Johnston (president) in speaking to the report, said that she would like to see every member of the committee do an equal share of work. For the past year a few had had the hulk of the work and for the coming year she had a. scheme to bring forward which would make the work of raising of funds less arduous for the few. Mrs McMurray said the balancesheet was satisfactory. It would be necessary to purchase up-to-date scales during the coming year. Since its inception, the Society had had the loan of a set from Mr D. W. Robertson. The speaker pointed out that for the secretary to do the ordinary secretarial duties and to organise and supervise efforts to raise funds, took iqi altogether too much time and she honed to see a scheme brought forward that would relieve Hit' secretary of any work in raising funds. The report which was adopted, read a- follows: — “The dale on which the annual meeting shall be held (approximately) is fixed by the rules of the Society. To comply with the rules we have changed our annual meeting from November to March. “Th'.- report, also the balancesheet. covers fifteen months as against twelve in the previous year. The work for the year compares favourably with last year. One of the most pleasing features being the number of new eases recorded each month. The following are the details of the Nurse’s visits to Foxton office and homes, also visitors In the office, etc. Previous year’s figures are given in parenthesis: Visits by Nurse to office 08 (51): babes brought to office, 635 (488); adults to office 567 (499): nurse’s vsits to homes, 118- (32); new cas-

es. 30 (29); summary of new cases: Na In rally fed. 11 (9); partially naturally fed 3 (2); artificially fed, 11 (9); expectant mothers 2 (1). Letters and cards posted, 59. Emulsion given to mothers gratis, 21 lbs. The committee wish to again recotd their appreciation of Mrs U. A. Pearson’s generous help. Messi > 'Madge Bros., for conveying the nurse free of charge, Mrs W. Kirkland for supplying lunch for nurse. Mr W. Trueman, auditor; Mr D. \VRobertson.
