OROUA DOWNS SPORTS.
A SUCCESSFUL MEETING.
The ninth annual meeting of the Oroua Downs Sports Club was held on Wednesday on Mr H. G. Hammond’s property, Oroua Downs. The rain of the forenoon somewhat delayed the proceedings hut the afternoon remained fine, though overcast and the track and field were not unduly heavy. The principal officials controlling the fixture were: President. Air H. G. Hammond, secretary, Mr R, Gates; handieappers Mr A. C. Fades (cycle events), Mr T. Stubbs (other events); judges: Messrs J. Cameron (horse events) and V. Moffat- (athletic. ■ events); clerk of course, Mr. C. Conlan. No efforts had been spared by the committee to provide every facility for those attending the covered-in luncheon and tea rooms and the fen-ec-d-off course being outstanding features. Throughout, competition was keen, and the inclusion of cycle races in the club’s programme drew many good riders. Thv Foxton Citizen’s Band was in attendance and played selections throughout the day. Several stalls were conducted it) aid of the sports club funds, those in charge being: Luncheon rooms: Mesdames Conlan, J. Davey, Hammond. Moulden, Moffat, Rivers and assistants: tea rooms: Mesdames Burling, Ferguson, Gates, Gawler, and assistants: soft- drinks: Miss K. Conlan and assistants; ice cream Miss Burling; sweets: Misses A.
