MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday. Sir James Wilson presided and there were also present: Crs. H. H. Hunt, W. E. Barber, H. J. Fagan and J. R, McKelvie. CORRESPONDENCE. From New Zealand Counties’ Association, in reference to the Finance Act, 1920 and the Local Bodies’ Finance Act, 1921-22. —It was decided to protest against the Yestrictions placed upon the overdraft under the Finance Act. From Mr J. Linklater, M.P., notifying that he would endeavour to -ceure a grant for roading in the Fairfield set tl emeut.—-Rec eive d. ALTERATIONS TO RATE ROLLS. The following alterations were made to the rate rolls: Alsop Bros, to S. J. Pearce; H. T. A’Court to I. A’Court; John Ellery to George Ellery; same to Harry Ellery; Douglas G. Forlong to Gordon Forlong. TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer (Mr A. K. Drew) reported upon the finances of the County as follows : General Account dr., £3,978 13/-; loan account, cr., £4,727 3/4; net credit, balance, £748 15/4. Amounts available for expenditure are:—Sandon, £377 9/6; Mt. Stewart, £lB5 12/8; Waitohi £759 6/1; Rongotea £1,159 12/5; Carnarvon £548 1/-, Kawa Kawa £537 0/8, Awahou £603 18/11. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT The traffic inspector (Mr L. Berry-) reported that, during the month his time had been occupied patrolling the county roads, but very little stock had been found wandering One information laid against a Raima (anut resident resulted in a fine of £l. The “silent policeman” was in use at Sanson. A number of molorists were fined for driving through the township at a speed dangerous to the public | The total fines amounted to £22 10/-. The sum of £lB 10/- had been collected for the l egist rat ion of dogs. During the three and a-half months he had been employed by the Council, a total of £69 had been collected bv way of motor licenses, fines and hawkers' licenses. —Adopted. AWAHOU RIDING. The engineer reported that in the Awahou Riding metal had been carted to patch up weak places along the Foxloii-Shannon Rd. and also on the Whirokino Road. Seventy? chains of Springs Road had been reformed with the tractor and grader, and lie had also trimmed up portions of the Foxton-Shnnnon, Piggott’s, Barber’s and Easton’s Roads. The bridge over the Government drain was now in good ordei’. Metal was now being supplied by the tram to (be Pnlmerston-Foxton road and the surfacemen were employed putting the road in order. The Whirokino Bridge had been under repair for several day's and he hoped to complete the work for the present during the current week. Further repairs would be necessary at a later date as the decking for the length was coinpetely done. The crusher had been doing much better work during the last month as a result of a thorough overhaul. For the 21 days of working, 940 cubic yards of metal had been put through. The surfacemen had been engaged packing and replacing decaying sleepers at"various sections along the tram line. The engineer also reported comprehensively on the Engineer’s conference held recently in Dunedin.— The report was adopted. GENERAL. Aecouts amounting to £3057 15s Od were passed for payment. It was decided to make provision on the estimates for the sum of £SOO out of revenue for the purpose of making alterations and additions to the county offices.
