PROPOSED CARNIVAL.

BAND AND PLAYGROUND COM MIT TEES CONFER,

A conference* of delegates of the local Citizen's Band and the committee set op at the recent public meeting to arrange a combined effort on behalf of the children’s playground scheme and band’s funds was held in Perrenu’s rooms on Tuesday night. The band was represented by eight of its members and the playground committee, by four. Mr Perreau presided and outlined the object of the conference. The following letter was read from the Board, setting out their proposals :

“In reply to the deputation consisting of Messrs Perreau, Banks, Wiustanlev and Osborne, represen tatives of a proposed carnival for the equipment of a children’s public playground, which waited on the Band on Thursday evening to try and bring about an amalgamation with the proposed Band carnival offering them a percentage of the takings of a combined carnival the following resolution was passed at a Band carnival committee meeting held on Friday evening: ‘That a deputation of the committee meet the play-gromul committee on Tuesday evening and offer the following for their consideration: That the two carnival committees amalgamate and organise one huge carnival for the Baud and proposed playgrounds to be called The Band’s and Public Playgrounds Combined Monster Carnival; that the proceeds from Mime be equally divided between the two bodies up to a total of £I,OOO, all in excess of £I,OOO to go to the Band, to be handed to the Baud’s authorised treasurer, Mr R. Heath, who will deposit same to the Band’s credit in the Bank of New Zealand, Foxton.’ In the event of the Playgrounds committee accejtting the ab<>ve terms, an agreement shall be drawn up and shall be stamped and signed by the chairmen and secretaries of the two present carnival committees. The Band will then offer the Combined Carnival Committee what applications it has received for the position of organiser and will’ also place its carnival project and views for the new Committee’s discussion.”

In speaking to the motion and touching on the percentage offered by the Public Playgrounds Committee, the Bandmaster gave the assurance of the support that would accrue from the bands of New Zealand iu the disposal of Art Union tickets for the success of what is considered the youngest formed Silver Band in the Dominion. He also spoke of the line assistance promised him personally by the Mayor and executive of the Shannon Carnival and various sports clubs in the district, in recognition of the Band’s services which are being tendered at their meetings, this support for the Band is valuable for though Shannon, Oroua Downs, Kongo tea and Sandon, having children of their own, might prefer to support the formation of public playgrounds in their own centres, while they have assured us that to form a Silver Band in their midst would be but energy misplaced and so are relying much upon the Foxf.on Band’s gratuitous assistance front year to year.

After a good deal of discussion it was decided to submit the Band's proposals to a further public representative meeting.
