BOWLING.

TRIANGULAR SHIELD WON BY FOXTON CLUB.

The final round of the Triangular Shield contest, played on Foxton green yesterday, occasioned considerable excitement towards the close of play on account of the extremely narrow r margin of points between the Foxton and Shannon aggregates. At the completion of the second round the aggregates, as expressed in the average points per rink, were as follows: Shannon. 21 5-G, Foxton 20f, Levin IS 1-3. Foxton thus had a good sporting chance of winning the trophy, which they did by the narrowest of margins, jnsl managing to notch one more point than Shannon, Levin being sixteen points behind. The aggregate scores were: Foxton 100, Shannon 105, Levin 150. The green had received special attention during the past week in an attempt to put it in decent playing order but the result was by no means all that could be desired, although doubtless some improvement was evident. Mr Christie, president of the local club, welcomed the visitors and expressed pleasure at seeing so many old bonding friends assembled and while apologising for the unsatisfactory state of the green, nevertheless hoped they would have a pleasant time. A Levin quartette gave a spirited rendering of a chanty proclaiming their presence in no uncertain terms which was the signal for hearty laughter and applause. In the rinks play the scores were characterised by remarkably close figures, two ties being recorded — Smith and Harris and Roore and Murray—Admore gaining an advantage of six points over his oppinent and Nye five. In his match against. Harris (Levin) Smith was slow' to score until after the eleventh head was played, the figures then being IP—6 in favour of Harris, but lie made a good recovery and brought the fiugres exactly even (22 —22) on the last head. In the game Roore v. Murray, the score card shows the figures 17—9 on the fourteenth head in favour of Roore, but Murray managed to bring the scores even on the final end. Murphy, in his game with Nye, allowed Nye to accumulate 9 points up to the eighth head before scoring, when he hopped off with a four. The eight head found the scores even, and Nye notched five on the succeeding heads, giving him a win by that amount. The particulars are as follows: Ball, Pearson, McColl, Admore (s) 24 v. Pyke, Inder, Bull, Suhan (s). Levin 18. Thomson, Healey, Christie, Nye, (s), 20 v. A. Butt, E. Spencer, Fargher, Murphy (s), Shannon, 15. Mattar, Stohr, Ross, Roore (s) 19 v. Roach, E. Butt, Knowles, Murray (s), Shannon, 19. Winstanley, Simpson, Huntley, Smith (s) 22 v. Pink, Brown, Wilson, Harris (s.) Levin, 22. Mr W. Bull, president of Levin Club, presented the Triangular Shield to the Foxton Club at the conclusion of play and congratulated Foxton on their win and also called for cheers which were heArtily given. Mr E. Spencer also expressed congratulations on behalf of Shannon bowlers. Mr Christie suitably acknowledged the congratulations. The visitors were treated to a very tasty afternoon tea by the ladies and cheers in appreciation were given at the conclusion of play. The Levin quartette again raised their voices and led the assemblage in singing “Anld Lang Syne” before the bowlers dispersed.
