BOROUGH LOAN MONEY.
AJLAYOR WAITS ON PRIME MINISTER.
The Mayor of f oxton (Air John Chry stall) waited upon the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, at Palmerston North yesterday in regard to matters appertaining to Borough finance. Mr J. Linklater, ALP., introduced Mr (Jlirystall to the Prime Minister. Mr Ohrystali explained that the Borough of Foxton had secured a loan of £35,000 from the State Advances Office, some time ago, for water and drainage services. The amount to be taken up in instalments. Of this amount the Borough received £IO,OOO in the first two years and altogether £30,000 had been spent in completing the water supply system. Prior to leaving for the Old Country Air Massey had said he would see what could be done in the matter of an advance o£ £5,000 then required to complete the water supply system. The Borough raised this amount locally by way of temporary deposits, and when the auditor came along they were informed that there had been an infringement of the Lo'dal Bodies’‘ Finance Act, and the council were asked to show cause why proceedings should not be taken against them. The matter had been held over during the Prime Alinister’s absence from the Dominion and in the meantime had been largely settled. The council’s position was, how ever, that it still wanted £1,500 to meet the requirements of the Act. All’ Massey mentioned that the maximum advance for one year was £SOOO and the conned had received that amount. If Air Ghryslail supplied him with a detailed statement regarding the matter he would look into it and see what could be done.
